The Last Time The US Open Was In Pebble Beach -
History Was Made! Who Will Make History In 2010?
As the US Open Golf Tournament returns this coming weekend, it should provide for interesting theater as there are a few big, boldfaced names involved: US Open - Pebble Beach - Tiger Woods. Three subjects – each alone is powerful enough to pique even the most casual golf fans interest. Yet, considering the history of those three names, when used together – there aren’t many things that have the potential of being more exciting.
Yes, things with Tiger are different now. And no, the whole story of the US Open shouldn’t be about Tiger. The US Open was first played 115 years ago and has been considered one of the top 4 tournaments in the world well before Tiger was around. And Pebble Beach has been thought of as one of top golf courses in the world for far longer than Tiger has been ranked #1 in the world.
So while the US Open at Pebble Beach is much more significant than any one Player - why is Tiger still part of the story? Meaning, after soiling his name and reputation, and no longer in the exclusive group of star athletes that you could consider as a role model – why is he still part of the storyline?
For the simple reason that the 2000 US Open was held at Pebble Beach Golf Links, and for anyone that has forgotten (or wasn’t involved in golf at that time) … what Eldrick “Tiger” Woods did during those 4 days of golf is, and will forever be, one of the most impressive events that has ever happened in the game of golf.
He won the tournament by 15 strokes. Now this wasn’t a PGA Tour Player playing against journeymen on the mini tours. This was an event that had the best Players in the world playing on one of the great golf courses of the world. 15 Strokes! Tiger was 12 under Par – the Golfer in second place was 3 over Par. And considering that more than half the Golfers in the tournament finished at 13 over Par or more (25 strokes or more higher) -- all I can say is "Wow!"
Have you ever seen a sporting event – let alone a golf tournament – that was so thoroughly dominated by one person?
Yes, I know that at least 50% of the golfing population is sick and tired of hearing about Tiger – I understand. However, what he did at Pebble Beach in 2000 was one of the greatest sports performances ever! And regardless of what has happened in his personal life, and regardless of how much you may “hate” and/or feel betrayed by Tiger – winning the US Open by 15 strokes on Pebble Beach is an incredible feat!
What will happen this year at Pebble Beach? Who will win? I wish I knew.
Below I have listed three scenarios that you’re likely to see …along with two questions I’m interested in seeing answered:
Scenario #1: There will be at least one Golfer that you've never heard of that will rise up onto the leaderboard in the first two days. This Golfer may never take the lead, it may just be that on the front nine holes on Friday they shoot a 33. But their score through 27 holes gets them on the leaderboard and causes you to say: “Harry Bafupnick? Who the heck is Harry Bafupnick?”
Scenario #2: There will be a Golfer that has won a Major Championship, but hasn’t won a Major for at least a few years, that will be hanging around the leaderboard after 54 holes. For example: someone like a Justin Leonard, or Zach Johnson or Shaun Micheel, etc.
Scenario #3: That a Golfer that has won a Major Championship (or multiple Majors), but now is in the 40 and over age group will make some noise on Sunday. For example: someone like an Ernie Els, Davis Love III, David Toms or Retief Goosen, etc.
Question #1: Can one of the Golfers that are often included in the “Best Player In The World Without A Major” category win this tournament. I guess that title belongs to Sergio Garcia. But, there are many great, great Players that haven’t won a Major yet. Are we going to see a breakthrough from Ian Poulter, Anthony Kim, KJ Choi or Luke Donald?
Question #2: The “Young Guns”. There are so many great young Players out there that could fire a 65 at any given moment. How will they do at the US Open at Pebble Beach? Will we see Rory McIlroy, Ryo Ishikawa or Dustin Johnson make a statement at Pebble Beach just as Jack Nicklaus did at the 1962 US Open at Oakmont or as Tiger Woods did at the aforementioned 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach?
Regardless of who wins … US Open – Pebble Beach – Tiger Woods … that’s a very strong threesome. Enjoy the golf tournament --- it should be fun!

Marc Solomon - Your Instructor For Life

GMS Photo of the Week
This photo, sent in by Onie Ritz of Minnetonka, Minnesota - was taken at our Phoenix, Arizona location on March 24th, 2010 with GMS Instructor Sam Burge, along with Mike Mahalich and Mitch Ritz.
This photo was taken during "Chalk Talk" (our afternoon review session that we conduct after our 9 holes of On-course Instruction). As you can see - everyone smiles at GMS after seeing improvement on the golf course!
And if you have a photo from your GMS Experience, send it to MyPlayerPhoto@GolfMadeSimple.com and we'll send you a small thank you gift.

I believe there a few things you should be observing when watching the US Open on television. One of which is the Players making their PLAN before each shot. I'd like for you to take notice and compare how you do it, versus how they do it.
The common Golfer walks (or drives their cart) down the fairway to their golf ball; once at the ball; they find their yardage, look at their clubs and say to themselves....

Just want to let you know I had a fantastic time at Landsdowne Resort, Virginia with Jeff and my other three classmates. You matched us up perfectly! They were a great group of people.
The resort was awesome - staff were very friendly and helpful - food delicious! It’s a great place.
Jeff is a fantastic instructor. I enjoyed every minute of my lesson and would highly recommend the classes.
I must say, this week Ron and I went out and played 9 holes and what a difference!! My ball striking was right on (tick tock), I felt very confident in what I was doing - I just thoroughly enjoyed my game.
I will really work hard on improving my putting with the easy to follow instructions for practicing. I think I will reach my goal this summer - which will be great!
I can't thank you enough - it was the best money I ever spent!

Hi Jeff:
I know you haven't heard from me since I was in the GMS class in Innisbrook, but I never quit working and it paid off big time.
I'm 69 years old and playing the best golf ever! We were in Myrtle Beach on a 7 day golf outing with 8 guys. Everyone had about the same handicap as I did (a couple of guys were 3 strokes lower). For the whole week I had: the most birdies; the most skins; the low net score; the low gross score and the most money!
Back home on Monday, I shot a 77 at my home course. I'm now playing my dream of scoring under 80! It will be only a matter of time till I play my first scratch round.
Thank you GMS,

P.S. Everyone notices I'm a new person and is asking about GMS

Located just 1 hour outside Chicago and less than 45 minutes from Milwaukee – the Lake Geneva area of Wisconsin is the leading summertime destination in the Midwest United States. And leading Lake Geneva to this high ranking is our newest location - The Grand Geneva Resort.
Here's a trivia question for you: What did Al Capone and Hugh Hefner have in common? Well, hold-on, don’t even answer that. All kidding aside, they both had estates in Lake Geneva.
The Grand Geneva Resort, with 36 holes of golf, a fantastic practice area, beautiful accommodations right on property, multiple restaurants, etc. – you could understand why Hayden said what he did. What makes this statement so powerful is that GMS already has a few locations that have 36 holes (or more) of golf, fantastic practice areas, beautiful accommodations right on property, multiple restaurants, etc.
So Hayden, why is Grand Geneva the Ultimate GMS Location:
“The Brute golf course (at Grand Geneva Resort) might be the nicest golf course I have ever seen. The conditions are immaculate! And although I haven’t stayed in the rooms, everyone says they’re excellent. And everyone loves the restaurants. I can definitely vouch for the lunches being great! The facilities are beautiful. The golf shop must win awards each year as it’s the nicest golf shop I have ever seen. It’s the perfect location for what we do. It’s the ultimate GMS location.”
Whether you’re driving from somewhere in the Midwest or you’re flying in – Lake Geneva is easy to get to. If you’re flying – Chicago’s O’Hare International is just 60 minutes and Milwaukee’s Mitchell Airport is just 45 minutes. And with just about every airport in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe having a non-stop flight to O’Hare – you're closer than you think to the Ultimate GMS Location!
So if you want to do the GMS Program because you know your golf game needs it … why not attend in the Ultimate GMS Location!

So we have one more tournament on the PGA Tour until everybody whips themselves into a frenzy the following week at the US Open in San Diego, California. I associate the US Open with being in the heart of golf season – so that may mean that Golfers are starting to get into their weekly games and enjoying life.I believe there a few things you should be observing when watching the US Open on television.
